Hi, I’m Brandon and I am a technology addict!
Many people would say that I am pretty much addicted to always being connected whether its twitter, Facebook, or my blog. I am always connected to those via my iPhone. The other night was proof of how strongly I have this addiction.
We had intended to go out on a date just the two of us and leave the little one with a sitter. Well the sitter fell through so we decided it would be a very casual date night and took William with us. On our way to the restaurant I realized that I had forgotten my iPhone at home I didn’t think anything about it really. My wife had noticed that during dinner I was very chatty which means that I am either really excited about something or I’m going through withdrawals. Well I was going through withdrawals. I didn’t have my phone and didn’t know what to do so I just had a conversation with my wife. The baby was sleeping and we had time to actually talk. It was great! It was great to finally get away from my phone knowing that it would not disturb our conversation.
Sometimes in our always connected society, I have forgotten what it is to connect with people outside of social media. I’ve been made fun of by my friends who don’t quite understand everything that I do with my iPhone like the tweeting, Facebooking, and the such. But I’ve realized that if I can just put down the phone and disconnect myself I become more connected to the people who truly matter, my family. My wife challenged me along time ago to go 24 hours with no phone and no computer. I think sometime I will take her up on that challenge, oh crap am I slipping because of that statement. I just want her to be around to see me do it, so it will probably wait until summer. As much as I am love being the always connected blogging, tweeting, Facebook dad there are more important things in life then that.
I think next time we go out on a date, I will leave the phone at home.
This upcoming Friday I will have a new funny segment to my blog….. be sure to come back to check it out!
